As prelude to Russian collusion on his behalf in 2016, Trump won Kremlin support while staging a pageant featuring, as he put it, "the most beautiful women in the world."
As Trump wrote to Putin, he was interested in seeing all the beautiful girls in Moscow. And, btw, Trump really, really wanted a Trump tower near Red Square.
Yes, I’m trying to understand the chronology of his infatuation with Putin. During the 1970s most of us were in recovery from water Gate and Russia was still a communist nation that we all watched spy movies, where they were always the enemy. During the 1980’s I think we were still in recovery from Watergateand communism and Russia still loomed in filmscapes as an enemy. I don’t know enough about Russia, But my memory is that the collapse of communism wasn’t a public knowledge until it was very close. We did not admire Russia, but knew they coveted our blue jeans. But, somehow, during these years rump knew about Putin and admired him and viewed him as successful enough that he knew he would become the way to his Tower dream. I guess I’m just confused because no other American seems to have had this kind of dream so I guess that seems to mean rump was very unique at an early age. Just like I can’t quite wrap my head around Stephen Miller’s immigration dreamscape which he seems to have held from an early age. I just can’t wrap my head around someone loving Putin well before he became acceptable and well before the collapse of communism.
Thank Craig, your investigations in to the Trump Russian connections is brilliant analysis, it's just mine blowing how the US government has not looked into this, I have read both books, and will definitely be purchasing the new one, I share your Substack , I first saw you with Zev Shavle from Narative back in 2017
I wish someone would ask Michael Cohen about that Las Vegas nightclub experience. I credit Cohen for some of his actions in his post-Trump life. However, I don't think he always tells the truth. He enthusiastically defends Trump re: Epstein and he detests Christopher Steele and the "dossier." He knows more than he admits to. That's what I think.
Truth, or lack thereof, is something that landed Cohen in prison. How many of his versions of truth, can any of us believe? He’s certainly an entertaining character, however….
Same here. I’ve always felt Cohen holds back because he fears incriminating himself. Trump attracts fellow grifters and con men into his circle of associates and an honest law abiding fixer wouldn’t have been much use to him.
Cohen also strikes me as a narcissist similar to Trump though far less pathological. Notice how he’s always the hero in his own stories and boasts about his exploits almost as much as the bloated demagogue he worked for?
Yes. I'm really tired of him bringing up his ill treatment over and over. He is nowhere as evil as Trump, but he was Trump's bullying fixer. He knows more than he admits.
Another insightful piece in your arsenal Craig, thanks for sharing!
So he was interested in Putin before the fall of communism, what would have been the interest besides Trump tower in Moscow?
