FWIW, I think General Kalugin and Colonel Gordievsky are still Kremlin-loyal agents of the type that James Angleton tried to warn us, “They’ll tell you 98% truth and 2% lies, and really mess you up, boy” (or words to that effect). At a conference at Texas A&M a few years, Allen Weinstein seemed to doubt Kalugin’s explanation as to why Vitaly Yurchenko returned to the USSR in 1985. The thing that's a big red flag (pardon the pun) for me is that they both claim Yuri Nosenko was a true defector (I’m convinced he was a false-defector-in-place in June 1962, and a rogue physical defector to the U.S. in February 1964 whose bona fides the KGB had no choice but to support through the likes of Kulak / FEDORA, Orekhov / SHAMROCK, Kochnov / KITTYHAWK and Yurchenko) and probable “moles” Bruce Leonard Solie (look him up) in the Office of Security and Leonard V. McCoy (ditto) in the Soviet Russia Division’s Reports and Requirements section), and they both trashed the fine 2007 Yale University Press book, “Spy Wars: Moles, Mysteries, and Deadly Games,” by Noshenko’s primary case officer, Tennent H. Bagley.
Which book is free to read -- just Google “spy wars” and “archive” simultaneously.
Fascinating. Do you think Trump fears that if he does not cooperate with/flatter/appease Putin (on Ukraine, tariffs, etc), he will be physically in danger? Or is he mainly concerned about being exposed as a longtime 'associate' of Russia? Surely by now Trump knows he has been manipulated! (?).
